Northeast Poland Adopt a City Prayer Initiative

We hope that you have a wonderful time of prayer before the Lord as you lift up the people of Northeast Poland.  Here are a few tips to get the most out of this resource.

  1. Congratulations, you have adopted the city Olsztynek!  In English you would pronounce it Olsh-tinek.  It is located 2 1/2 hours north of Warsaw and 30 minutes south of Olsztyn.

  2. Below are pictures of the Olsztynek for you to look at while you familiarize yourself with this city in NE Poland.  As you look at the pictures, pray for things that the Lord lays on your heart.  You may find yourself praying about things you had not expected!

  3. Underneath the pictures you will find a list of prayer requests that we encourage you to pray through.  Use theses as a starting point, then follow the Lord's leading as you pray for these people and for Olsztynek.

  4. Press "Play Movie" button to see a watch a short movie about NE Poland.  (You do not have to be connected to the internet to see this movie.)

Prayer Requests

Let these prayer requests be a starting place in your time of prayer before the Lord.

Praying for people:

  1. Pray for the people of Olsztynek:  Pray that they will find their happiness and purpose for living in Christ alone.

  2. Pray for the men of Olsztynek:  Unemployment, intoxication and indifference put fatherhood at risk in this nation.  Many children have no good male role model in their lives.  Pray that the men of this city will find work, purpose and Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

  3. Pray for the women of Olsztynek:  In many cases they bear a great part of the family burden.  Pray that they will be good mothers and wives and that they will come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.  Pray also for the children in their care.

  4. Pray for the children growing up in Olsztynek:  Pray for the schools and teachers.  Pray that they will soon discover a Savior in Jesus Christ.

Praying for places:

  1. City Government:  Pray for the city officials.  Pray that they will be saved.  Pray that they will make it easy for believers in the city of Olsztynek to gather, meet, and spread their beliefs.

  2. Local Schools:  Pray for the students, teachers, administrators and other government employees that study and work in the schools in Olsztynek.  Pray that the students, who are the future of their country, will become radiant followers of Christ.

  3. Local Shopping Area:  Shopping is another aspect of small city life that draws people together.  Pray that the shopkeepers will be saved and share not only food and products with their neighbors, but Jesus Christ as well.

  4. Local Businesses:  Pray that the local businesses in Olsztynek will have success bringing income and jobs to the residents.  Pray that the owners will be saved.

  5. Residential areas:  Many people live in block buildings.  These buildings range from 5 to 25 stories tall and usually have between 4 and 12 apartment type dwellings on each floor.  This type of structure was built throughout Poland during the communist period.  They are the typical housing structures in most towns and cities in Poland.  There are very few cities or town, no matter how small, that don't have at least one block building in them.  Pray for the residents, young and old, who live in these buildings.  Pray that those who may already be believers will share their faith with their neighbors.  Pray that small home church groups will spring up in every block building in Olsztynek.  Some Polish people live in what you would consider a regular home type structure.  Pray also for the people who live in the homes.  Pray that they will open their homes to others for studying the Bible and starting home churches.

  6. Local Catholic Church:  Practically every town and village in Poland has a Catholic church in it.  In most cities, the church is the center of city life.  Pray that the priests in each church will become believers and lead their church to faith in Christ alone.  Pray that each member of the churches will be saved and that these churches can become beacons of Christ to the nation of Poland.

  7. Influence of the Catholic Church:  There are many old churches and old church families in NE Poland.  Pray for the people of Olsztynek who are multi-generational Catholics.  The family beliefs go back so far that the new generations often don't even question their beliefs.  Pray that the new generations will see the light of Christ and reject the beliefs and traditions of the Catholic Church.

  8. New Churches:  Pray that new evangelical churches will be started in Olsztynek and that solid Christian leaders will be raised up.

Praying for Poland:

  1. Idolatry:  Pray that the bonds of idolatry focused towards Mary and the saints will be broken down.

  2. Alcohol Problems:  Pray that the addiction of alcohol will be broken in people's lives Poland.

  3. The Pope and his influence in Poland:  The previous Pope was Polish and had a great deal of influence in this country.  He is highly credited with both the downfall of communism and for returning Poland and the Catholic Church to a strong reliance on and devotion to Mary.  Pray that people will place their faith in God alone and not in Mary, the saints or any man including the Pope.

  4. Pray for Polish Baptists:  Polish Baptist number 5,000 compared to almost 38,000,000 Catholic Poles.  Pray that they will be burdened to share their faith, start new churches and witness about God greatness like never before.  Pray that they will start many new churches.  Pray also that existing churches and church bodies will be strengthened.

Praying for Team Northeast Poland:

  1. Our national partners:  We are working with several churches and ministries in Northeast Poland.  Please pray for Pastor Marek and his family.  Pastor Marek works at the Polish Baptist Church in Olsztyn.  Please pray also for Michal and Ania who teach an English school in the nearby city of Kętrzyn.  They are Polish Baptist Missionaries from Krakow who work at the church in Kętrzyn.  They teach English during the week in the church, building relationships with others in order to have opportunities to share the gospel.  We have plans to join them in the spring with a volunteer team to do some outreach ministries with their school.

  2. English Conversation Clubs:  Our English Conversation Club is meeting weekly in Olsztyn.  We have between 10 and 15 coming regularly. We spend the first hour practicing English conversation skills and the second hour studying the Bible and discussing it.  We give each person who comes a Polish/English parallel New Testament Bible.  Please pray that those who are coming will acknowledge their need for a Savior and ask Jesus to save them!

  3. Our Friends:  When we return to Poland in June, we will resume meeting weekly with a married couple who have a daughter the age of our oldest daughter.  We have speak Polish and English and we study the Bible with them.  Although they have not yet made any decisions, we continue to meet together.  Please pray that they will be saved!

  4. New Small Group:  We are praying and ask that you pray with us that these people in the English Clubs and our friends will all be saved and begin meeting in a small group to study the Bible.  Pray with us that these small groups will become new churches.

  5. Travel in Poland:  When we return, we will be doing a good deal of traveling throughout Northeast Poland.  Sean travels normal a great deal since the Northeast Poland region is very large.  Please pray for us always as we drive throughout the region.

  6. Family Health:  As many of you know, each family in our team has been stricken with illness and disease at one time or another in the past 4 years.  Please keep our health, safety and protection in your constant prayers.
